Our Responsible AI Policy underscores our dedication to using AI technologies in line with our core values of integrity, fairness, and accountability.
Principles of Responsible AI
Ecolab's Responsible AI Policy is built on five core principles:
- Safety and Reliability: Our AI technologies are designed to minimize unforeseen disruptions and protect against harm.
- Privacy and Security: We prioritize individual confidentiality and autonomy, protection of intellectual property, and mitigating against unintended applications and access.
- Accountability: We seek to hold ourselves accountable through governance, clear lines of responsibility, monitoring, and sustained improvement, and expect the same from our partners.
- Transparency: We promote transparency in the design, function, and use of AI systems, aiming to advance the explainability of AI decision-making when feasible and appropriate.

Ecolab's commitment to responsible AI is in furtherance of our Code of Conduct and broader commitment to ethical business practices. Ecolab holds all employees, officers, directors, contractors, temporary employees, service providers, and outside consultants working on behalf of Ecolab accountable for designing, developing, and deploying AI systems consistent with our responsible AI principles.

The Ecolab Anti-Corruption Policy reinforces the commitment to ensure compliance with all anti-corruption laws, including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), the UK Bribery Act 2010 and anticorruption laws in effect within the countries where Ecolab does business.
Ecolab complies with applicable labor and employment law and does not discriminate. Our recruitment, hiring, compensation, promotion, transferring, training, corrective action and termination practices are based exclusively on an individual’s qualifications and ability to perform the job. Ecolab’s suppliers are held to global fundamental principles of human dignity. Our Ethical Sourcing Standards are the foundation of our global supply chain initiative requiring direct suppliers to protect the health, safety and human rights of their associates.
Suppliers must meet standards regarding forced labor, child labor, health and safety, fair pay and harassment in the workplace. We require that our suppliers identify and act swiftly to eliminate any unacceptable conditions or practices in their facilities. We will not do business with suppliers who do not support the fundamental principles of human dignity and rights of workers to fair and equitable treatment.
We base our supplier requirements on international standards including the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the International Labor Organization (ILO) 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Additionally, the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (SB 657), effective January 1, 2012, requires certain companies to disclose information regarding their efforts to eradicate slavery and human trafficking from their supply chains. The United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Act, adopted in 2015, requires similar disclosures of certain companies doing business in the United Kingdom.
Ecolab’s products and operations are regulated by numerous different laws globally, including the European Union (EU) Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) regulations in our European products and operations. In addition to eliminating SVHC listed chemicals in current products, Ecolab’s chemical ingredient policy prohibits developing new products containing SVHCs.
Ecolab respects the principles of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining in accordance with applicable national law. We adhere to applicable national laws that govern employee rights to exercise freedom of association and collective bargaining.
Ecolab requires that business decisions be made based on fair and objective criteria and not on an offer or request to improperly influence a business decision. This position statement sets forth Ecolab’s requirements around giving and receiving gifts, travel, entertainment, and meals in accordance with the Code of Conduct.

Preparation of the “Major Accident Prevention Policy Document”
The regulation known as the Seveso Directive has most recently been implemented in our country by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Interior, taking into account the Council Directive 2012/18/EU dated 4/7/2012. The new “Regulation on the Prevention and Mitigation of Major Industrial Accidents” was published in the Official Gazette on March 2, 2019, issue 30702.
Our establishment is subject to the provisions of the “Regulation on the Prevention and Mitigation of Major Industrial Accidents.” The notification specified in Article 7 of the Regulation has been made using the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization notification system (BEKRA). Within the scope of the BEKRA notification, our establishment has been classified as a “Lower Tier” establishment. In accordance with Article 11 of the Regulation, our establishment is preparing a “Major Accident Prevention Policy Document.”

The facility produces liquid dishwashing detergent, liquid hand soap, fabric softener, general surface cleaner, instrument and surface disinfectant for the food industry, grease remover, limescale remover, bleach, ultra-concentrated bleach, corrosion inhibitor, water conditioning chemicals, hand disinfectant, surgical instrument disinfectant, surface disinfectant, device (hemodialysis device) disinfectant, and auxiliary chemicals for paper production.

Actions to Be Taken in Case of a Major Accident
Our establishment conducts at least one emergency drill per year to prepare for emergencies. All infrastructure preparations and teams for the Emergency Action Plan and intervention have been established.
In the event of an industrial accident involving chemical products at our establishment, the following steps should be followed:

- By smell

- Help people with disabilities and the elderly
- Help passersby, invite them indoors for protection if necessary

- Turn off air conditioning and ventilation in homes and cars, or keep windows and doors closed

- Follow the instructions of emergency and rescue services
- Avoid open flames (e.g., smoking, lighting a stove) due to possible explosion risk
- If instructed by television or radio to leave the area, exit your home and move to higher ground, away from the accident site

- Do not block fire and police emergency phone lines with unnecessary calls
- Do not leave your home or attempt to escape on foot or by car unless instructed; you would only endanger yourself
Certain state and local jurisdictions permit corporations to make direct contributions to candidates, party committees and ballot measures. The Ecolab Political Contribution Policy provides for an approval process for such contributions by a committee of executives and annual review of the policy and political contributions by the Governance Committee of the Ecolab Board of Directors.
